Dolpo Region |
Via Jumla Jhupal
Dolpo is located inside the Shey–Phoksumdo National Park
of mid–western Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri massif,
adjoining the Tibetan Plateau. Dolpo remains a truly
isolated corner of Nepal: time has stood still here for
centuries as the inhabitants of Tibetan stock continue
to live, cultivate and trade the way they have done
since time immemorial. The ecosystem encompasses a wild
and wonderful variety of plants and wildlife, including
the blue sheep and snow leopard. A trek through Dolpo is
an experience not easily forgotten. We trek through
birch and silver fir forest to Chaurikot. Scenic views
of Patrasi and Jagadu Himal are visible to the north.

and in the eight century Padma Sambhava, the
Buddhist saint ‘Lotus Born’ visited Phoksomdo in
order to rid the region of demons. Bon-po demons
tried to bribe the villagers with a priceless
turquoise not to revel her whereabouts, but the
saint caused the turquoise to turn to dung.
