Permits and Costs for the popular trekking regions of Nepal

Prior to commencing on the trekking on popular destinations Everest, Annapurna and Langtang regions as well as other trekking destinations of Nepal it is mandatory to acquire permits in the form of national park permits, conservation area permits, and municipality tax as well as TIMS cards as approval for trekking on these regions according to rules and regulations of Nepalese government. And the cost paid by the foreigners as permits would be used for the development of these regions as the basic norms of ethical tourism.

Below are the names of the popular trekking regions of Nepal along with required permits and costs:

Langtang Region

  • Langtang National Park permit that is $ 35 US per person
  • TIMS Card $ 10 US per person.
  • The extra cost for accommodation, transportation, guide, food and other personal beverages for the trekking.

Annapurna region,

  • Annapurna conservation permit that is $ 35 US per person
  • TIMS card that costs $ 10 US per person
  • Extra costs of transportation, accommodation, guide, food, and beverages

Everest Region

  • TIMS card that cost $ 10 US per person
  • Sagarmatha National Park permit that costs $ 35 US per person
  • Namche rural municipality  that cost 2000 rupees per person
  • Cost of Kathmandu-Lukla- Kathmandu airfare
  • The extra cost of transportation, accommodation, food beverages charges as per personal requirements.

Upper Mustang Region

  • TIMS Card that cost $ 10 US per person
  • Annapurna Conservation Area permit (ACAP) that costs $35 per person
  • Special or Restricted Area permit that costs $ 500 per person for the first 10 days then $ 50 per person per day for beyond 10 days

Dolpo Region

  • TIMS Card that costs $ 10 per person
  • Shey Phoksundo National Park permit that costs $ 35 per person
  • Special or Restricted area permit for Upper Dolpo that costs $ 500 per person for the first 10 days then $ 50 per person per day for beyond 10 days
  • Special permit for Lower Dolpo that costs $ 20 per person per week and $ 5 per person per day beyond one week.

Manaslu Region

  • TIMS Card that costs $ 10 per person
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit that costs $ 35 per person
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit that costs $ 35 per person
  • Special permit for Manaslu region that costs $ 100 per person per week and $ 15 per person per day beyond one week for the month of September to November & for the month of December to August special permit costs $ 75 per person per week and $ 10 per person per day beyond one week.

These permits can be obtained from the outlets of the Nepal Tourism Board office and if you want to trek freely then all these permits are handled by Langtangri Trekking and Expedition with a 5 % service charge on the above-mentioned costs.

Apart from the above-mentioned cost trekkers and visitors have to pay visa costs $ 50 US per person for up to 30 days. And the visa can be obtained on arrival at the international airport.
