Moderate trekking involves 5 – 6 hours a day walking at a steady pace below 4000 meters for around 10 days trekking trip.
Newly opened less ventured Pikey peak trail takes you the lower Khumbu valley of the Everest region where the Pikey peak is located is touted as the best vantage point to perceive the breathtaking glimpses of the astounding snow-clad peaks including the eight-thousanders Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga with other stunning snowy peaks and landscapes. The short and easily accessible trekking trail leading to the Everest region is a perfect bucket-list destination for the novice trekkers, adventurers with short holiday duration but want to immerse in the natural wonders granted by the panoramic Himalayan peaks.
As the trek begins after the arduous drive on the serpentine and bumpy dirt filled road but the reward of the rapturous vision of the spectacular peaks from the trek starting point intoxicates and compels to forget the scary drive from the Kathmandu reigniting the ecstasy of being on the lap of the Himalayan range on the countryside setting.
Incredible trek endows moments to feel the serenity and religiosity of the adorned Buddhist culture followed by the inhabitants of the lower Khumbu region Sherpa people blending with the local Sherpa famed for strength and humble behavior and exploring monasteries, stupas, mani stones as well as villages dotted along the trail along with the sensation of the camping on the wilder part of the region.

ChupluBhanjyang is situated at an elevation of 3150 m and takes 6-7 hours of bus/jeep ride to reach there from Kathmandu. Khijiphalate is situated at a distance of 168 km from Kathmandu. This is the northwest Part of Okhaldhunga district. If one can stay at Khijiphalate, there are options of hotels but the best is to hike for 1 hour to reach ChupluBhanjyang where we can visit mani stone and Buddha. Overnight at the ChupluBhanjyang.
After 6-7 hours hike from Chuplubhanjyan, the northern part of Okhaldunga, following TholedembaTaklung(3420m) can be reached easily. After early morning breakfast from Chuplubhanjyang, one should move onwards with packed lunch as there is no facility of hotels in the route before reaching Taklung. Traveling from Taklung, one can experience the beautiful villages of Solukhumbu andOkhaldunga, along with Mt. Gaurishankar and Mt. Numbur. Herds of Yak grazing on route sides can always be seen. When traveling from here, one can see ancient BuddistMonestry at Gwangding. Overnight at the Taklung.
Pikey Base Camp located at an altitude of 3600m above sea level can be reached after the 6- 7 hours hike from Taklung. Small tea houses are available in the route to base camp whereas there are 3 hotels at base camp for food and lodging. During the spring season (Mid-March to MidMay); one will be able to see spectacular displays of rhododendrons.
We get up early in the morning with warm clothes and climb up Pikey Peak (4070m.).It is about one hour walking to get to Pikey Peak. You will see the best sunrise and magnificent view of the Himalayas like Dhaulagiri, Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, AmaDamlam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Numbur, Gaurisankhar, Langtang to the far west and others mountains. After this unforgettable view, we hike down to Jarsabhanjyangfor breakfast. Then start the trek towards Junbesi. We can reachTaktor(Lunch Place) after 2/3 hrs hiking from Jarsabhyanjyang. After taking lunch we will trek for 2/3 hrs to arrive at Junbesi from Taktor. Junbesi is considered to be Sherpa’s most beautiful village, which lies at the height of 2990m above sea level. There is an ancient BudhistMoneastery at Junbesi. Once, it was the main point for the old famous route of Everest Trekking Route. Overnight at the Junbesi.
After breakfast, we will take a hike for 4-5 hours to reach the ThuptenChholing monastery (2800m); a popular Buddhist monastery located in the high and remote mountains of Nepal. Founded by His Holiness Thrulsik Rinpoche in the 1960s after fleeing from Tibet; it is an independent and autonomous institution. Consequently, ThuptenChholing has been able to remain authentically traditional, and sacred from the outside world. Explore the monastery and meditate with nuns. Then trek further to reach Junbesi for the overnight. Overnight in Junbesi at the tent.
After the morning breakfast, trek for 3 hours to reach the Chiwong monastery. Chiwong monastery is situated at an altitude of 9,000 feet on the cliff of Chiwong hill about 3 hours walking distance from Phaplu airport; SoluKhumbu district.
We will return from Phaplu driving towards Kathmandu after the memorable Pikey peak trek. And after arriving in Kathmandu check-in at the hotel.
